I am here to tell you that true to form, Kennedy has once again rendered me speechless. This happens every single time I read one of her books. I’m transfixed and left in a state of wonderment. This time though, it’s tenfold. The way that I connected with this story, but especially with Banner is astronomical. The intensity I felt pierced my soul in a way that’s unexplainable. My heart will forever beat within the pages of this book.
There are few times where I am awe struck. There are a few times where I connect with the heroine of a book. And there are even fewer times where I am so invested in a story that everything around me cedes to exist. I finished reading Block Shot two days ago. Usually when I finish reading a book I write my review right away. But this time, I just couldn’t. I needed a couple of days. And in those days, I soaked up everything I read, took a step back, reflected and learned.
Banner Morales, what can I say? I saw myself in this fierce and badass Latina. There has never been a heroine that I’ve connected deep down to the depths of my soul to a T the way I connected with Banner. Everything, and I mean everything she was feeling I related to. There were incidents I was in her shoes knowing exactly what she was going through. I didn’t see her as a fictional character, Banner was so much more. The depth of her character was insurmountable. Banner didn’t sugarcoat her insecurities, no. She went through every motion and did her damnedest to climb those mountains of self doubt and know her worth. I loved her resilience in overcoming and finally valuing her true self. I learned so much from Banner. A number doesn’t define you. You are so much more than that voice telling you you can’t do it, because you can do anything and have everything. But the most important this is that no matter what, you are enough.
Jared. Jared. Jared. Boy did I fall so hard for Jared. I love an alpha man, and Jared was that, but oh he was so much more. When he’s set on something he’s going to make damn sure to do anything he can to get it. He doesn’t play fair, but what’s the fun in that? His “I don’t give a f*** attitude” just added to his broody character, and I craved every bit of it. I can’t tell you how much I love this possessive man. There’s a lot and I mean A LOT to love about Jared, and he might argue, but I think the best part of him is his heart.
Jared and Banner were everything. I loved these two separately, but I loved them hardcore together. They made my heart flutter. The way they loved, oh man it was electric. I wanted more and craved more, I couldn’t get enough.
Kennedy. Ms. Kennedy Ryan, you’ve done it again. I honestly don’t know what I can say that hasn’t already been said. You are a wordsmith. The way you weave words and create a masterpiece every single time is astounding. I fall in love so hard with your characters every time. The realness and rawness to every story you write just adds to your talent. I don’t like picking favorites, but it’s hard not to when you write the characters you do. I thought I knew, I thought I already had mine securely tucked away. I was wrong though, because here comes Banner and Jared and they blew it out of the water. I have two more to add to my favorites list, but Banner and Jared will always be my forever favorites. Kennedy, thank you, not only for your words, but for giving me a heroine I see myself in. There aren’t a lot of books, if any with Latinas. Banner was so relatable, Banner IS me and I AM Banner. And also reading about my culture and the traditions spoke to my heart in so many levels, desde el fondo de mi corazón, gracias. You are and forever will be a favorite of mine.

WOW!!!! Where do I even start??? How do you convey your feelings after reading a book that literally leaves you wordless??? Kennedy Ryan has a way with words, her story telling is so much more than just words on paper. She captivates you, pulls you in, and imprints her words in your soul! You will be forever changed after reading her books!!! She will gut you, break your heart, and put it back together better than before! Her words make you FEEL so much and open your eyes !! Her writing is beyond words, there is nothing I can say to do justice to how this book made me feel!
I’ll start with Jared, this man, this unbelievably hot man who loves Banner so whole heartedly, who will do EVERYTHING to have her, keep her, love her and make her happy. and then there’s Banner!! This woman is a true BADASS!! She is not your typical woman, she is the true epitome of what everyone should strive to be like! Banner overcomes so much in her life, things all woman struggle with. She is not a small woman, she has low self esteem, struggles with weight and how she sees herself through other people’s opinions, has one if the biggest hearts, and is selfless! She is Smart, so damn smart! She dominates her career in a man’s world, overcomes all obstacles, and with Jared , and his love for her, she blossoms even more!
I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll leave you with this- this book is a MUST READ!! it is filled with heartbreak, and love! You will cry, laugh, but most importantly, you will FEEL the love between these two!
